Quillet

Quillet, named after one of the fields on the farm (and the Cornish name for a small field) is attached to Medlar.

Downstairs is a bedroom with two single beds, which looks out to the patio garden, a comfortable lounge with kitchen and dining areas, and a shower room with toilet. The whole of the upstairs is a studio-style room, open to the kitchen below, and contains one double bed.

French windows which allow morning light to flood into the lounge, open onto a small and private paved garden sheltered by a bay tree hedge, perfect as a safe play area or for a quiet read or coffee in the morning sun. Nearby is a more spacious grassy play and sitting area for guests to use

Quiet and private, Quillet is away from the bustle of Hugh Town, but within easy walking distance (approximately 30 minutes' walk) and is easily reached by bus, bike or taxi.

Access

Entry to Quillet is from the track, over a paved area, up a small step and through a gate to the patio. Having crossed the patio, access is then up a small step and over a threshold into the living room.

The downstairs living and kitchen areas have wood floors and rugs, while the shower room has quarry tiles. The shower tray is made from non-slip quarry tiles and has a step down into it. There are thresholds to cross in the living room, the bedroom and the shower room. Both bedrooms are carpeted.

The staircase is curved, and thus not all the stairs are of the same width.

Getting here

Lunnon is about 1.5 miles from Hugh Town. If you don't want to walk there are taxis and there is bike hire. There is also a bus which leaves from Hugh Town from a stop quite near the quay and which stops at the track leading to the farm.

To get to Scilly:
If you are flying with Skybus, all flights are met by taxi minibus and this will bring you to Lunnon (there is a charge for this).
If you are travelling by boat - the Scillonian - you may like to know that on Penzance quay your luggage will be put in a container in the hold of the ship. When you arrive at St Mary's, providing it is labelled clearly, your luggage will be put on a lorry and delivered to the farm during the afternoon. (There is a small charge for this service). That leaves you luggage-free which can be helpful. Otherwise you can wait and collect your luggage from the quay.
Please check with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, who are the transport operators, about luggage weights and dimensions, and all other details of travel.

We advise you to obtain holiday insurance which covers at least cancellation for any reason, transport delays and the possible need for overnight accommodation. Insurance can be arranged when booking your transport to the islands, for travel by boat, (on the Scillonian), or by plane, (on Skybus) - here).

Food:
On the main street is the Co-op where you can buy food. (Their opening hours are 8.00 a.m. - 10.00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. on Sunday). Just around the corner is another shop which is a butcher's shop but also sells bread, eggs, some vegetables and fruit, cheeses, etc which is open Monday - Saturday but not on Sundays.
Milk is delivered to the farm on Saturday mornings (and on alternate days after this) and can be ordered for your arrival.
There is a small number of stalls around the Islands, selling eggs and or vegetables, juice, etc.

Activities

Five minutes' walk across the fields is Porth Hellick, the nearest beach, where shells and rockpools abound. It is a safe and unspoilt playground for children and a quiet retreat for sunbathing, bird-watching or just sitting.

Higher Moors and Holy Vale Nature Trails are both close. Wander beneath rare mature elm trees, stop at the bird hides or ramble along the 'Birders' Loop' trail through reeds and wetland. Nearby coastal paths, often resplendent with wild flowers, give extensive views of sea and land, including many nearby Bronze Age monuments and burial chambers, and take you past fascinating rock formations.

Normandy indoor swimming pool is just up the road and St Mary's Riding Centre is within easy walking or cycling distance. The farm is home to St Mary's Riding Centre so you may see some of these horses grazing in our fields.

Pelistry Bay, with silver sand and a small island cut off by the sea at high tide, is about 15 minutes' walk away and Old Town, where there is an attractive sandy beach, tiny church, a small shop, two cafes and a pub is about 20 minutes' walking distance.

Check-in and out

The accommodation is available from 2.30pm on the day of your arrival, and should be vacated by 9.30am on the day of your departure. Your co-operation in this would be much appreciated. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the farm either when you arrive (if you arrive early) or for collection when you leave (if you are going later in the day). If your cottage is ready before 1.30 you are welcome to move in. If, when you arrive, no one seems to be around, please try to find us (we live on site and will be looking/listening out for you). But if we don't manage to find each other, please go in to your accommodation and be 'at home' - we will catch up with you later. We hope you have an enjoyable stay at 'Lunnon' and we look forward to seeing you here.
